Possible definitions for orthic

orchid
Any of the 15,000-35,000 species in 400-800 genera of nonwoody perennial plants that make up the family Orchidaceae. Bearing attractive flowers, orchids grow in most of the nonpolar world, especially in tropical regions, in soil or on other plants. Hybrids with showy flowers for the commercial trade come from the genera Cattleya, Cymbidium, Vanda, and Laelia. Flowers vary widely in size, color, and shape, but all are bilaterally symmetrical and have three sepals. Most orchids photosynthesize, but some live on dead organic material or absorb food from a fungus living in their roots. Vanilla is extracted from the seedpod of the genus Vanilla. Many folk medicines, local beverages, and foods are prepared from parts of orchid plants.

orchitis
Inflammation and swelling of the testes, caused by infection (most often mumps) or chemical or physical injury. The testicles' rich blood and lymphatic supply block most infections in the absence of severe injury. Usual symptoms are high fever, sudden pain in the testicle, nausea and vomiting, and swelling, tightness, and tenderness of the gland. Fluids with pus or blood may accumulate in the scrotum, which is generally red and thickened. Treatment may include antibiotics, bed rest, support of the testes, compresses, and surgery or drainage.

Orphism
Trend in Cubism that gave priority to color. Its name, bestowed in 1912 by G. Apollinaire, recalls not only the legendary Orpheus but the Symbolist painters' description of P. Gauguin's orchestration of color as "Orphic art." Among the painters who worked in this style were R. Delaunay, F. L\u00e9 ger, F. Picabia, and M. Duchamp. The best-known example is Delaunay's abstract Simultaneous Composition: Sun Disks (1912-13), in which superimposed circles of color have their own rhythm and movement.

ostrich
Two-toed, long-necked, ratite (Struthio camelus, family Struthionidae) found in Africa, the largest living bird. An adult male ostrich may be 8 ft (2.5 m) tall and weigh up to 350 lbs (155 kg). Males are black, with white wing and tail plumes; females are brown. Ostriches live in flocks of 5-50, usually among grazing animals, eating plants and an occasional animal. Roaring, hissing males fight for three to five hens, which lay 15-60 eggs in a communal nest scraped in the ground. The male sits at night; the females take turns by day. One-month-old chicks can run with adults, at 40 mph (65 kph). To escape detection, ostriches may lie on the ground with neck outstretched, a habit that may have given rise to the notion that they bury their head in the sand.

portico
Colonnaded porch or entrance to a structure, or a covered walkway supported by regularly spaced columns. The portico is a principal feature of Greek temple architecture and thus a prominent element in Roman and all subsequent Classically inspired structures.
